INS NISHANK - A LEGACY OF INDIAN NAVAL PROWESS

INS Nishank, a Veer-class missile corvette commissioned in 1989, exemplifies India’s maritime strength. With a displacement of 455 tons and speeds over 35 knots, this fast and agile vessel was equipped with P-20M anti-ship missiles, a 76.2 mm gun, and advanced radar systems.

Throughout its service, INS Nishank played a vital role in operations like Operation Vijay during the Kargil War in 1999 and participated in various joint exercises and patrol missions. After 33 years of distinguished service, the ship was decommissioned in 2022, leaving a legacy of bravery and technological prowess that continues to inspire. Its story is preserved as a walk through museum as part of the National Maritime Heritage Complex. Visitors will get to experience life onboard a naval warship through this walk through museum.

IL-38 SD AIRCRAFT- THE INDIAN NAVY'S MARITIME WATCHDOG

The IL-38 SD, a long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft, has been a vital part of the Indian Navy since its induction in 1977. Upgraded with the Sea Dragon suite, this aircraft is equipped to detect submarines, ships, and other threats over vast ocean areas. Capable of carrying torpedoes, depth charges, and anti-ship missiles, the IL-38 SD plays a crucial role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests. Despite newer aircraft joining the fleet, the IL-38 SD remains a reliable and essential asset in the Navy’s aerial operations. Its story is preserved as a walk through museum as part of the National Maritime Heritage Complex.

SEA HARRIER- THE SKY WARRIORS OF THE INDIAN NAVY

The Sea Harrier, introduced into the Indian Navy in 1983, was a versatile V/STOL fighter jet known for its vertical take-off and landing capability. Serving aboard INS Vikrant and INS Viraat, it played a crucial role in maritime defense and operations like the Kargil conflict. Armed with AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles, the Sea Harrier was a formidable presence in the skies. After over three decades of service, it was decommissioned in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of aerial prowess and maritime security. To inspire future generations, the aircraft will be proudly displayed in the east courtyard of National Maritime Heritage Complex.
